FAQs

I'd really love the support of a Doula but I don't think I can afford one. What should I do?

Please do not let the cost of Doula care prevent you from seeking this loving, holistic birth and postnatal support. If you feel that you may not be able to fund the costs in one or two payments, please get in touch and we can discuss payment plans, alternative payment options or even Doula UK's Access Fund.

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

I am happy to collaborate with the midwifery team throughout your pregnancy, labour, and postpartum period. I can accompany you for your prenatal check-ups if you so wish, which can be greatly beneficial and relieving for you as your care team will already be acquainted & united prior to the day of arrival. On the day of birth, I will be there to ensure your birthing plan is respected and that you are supported emotionally and physically throughout your journey. I am committed to working in partnership with your midwifery team to provide you with the best possible care during your pregnancy and birth.

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

I recognise the importance of supporting partners during the birth and postpartum period. I understand that partners may face their own unique set of emotions and challenges during this time. I offer support to partners through education, physical and emotional support and advocating for their needs throughout our entire journey together. I also like to ensure that partners and I always have one-to-one to explore their experiences, fears and expectations. Additionally, all partners are offered the opportunity to engage in a hands-on practical session where I share helpful skills, techniques and strategies that they can share with you during your birth journey, another way of supporting your sacred union and space.

Do you perform any physical examinations?

No. I am not a medical professional and I do not conduct a physical examination. My role is to provide emotional, physical and informational support to a woman before, during and after childbirth. This includes providing comfort measures such as massage, positioning, breathing techniques and other non-invasive methods. I also provide information about labour, delivery and postpartum care, as well as referrals to appropriate healthcare professionals if needed. My main focus is to provide an environment of support and understanding for the birthing family.
